Dark Magick

Tricks and Treats

Memories of yesterday come rushing back as I awaken to the comfort of a firm, warm body pressed against my back, a strong arm draped over me, long thin fingers splayed across my stomach. Sebastian and I making love. Me waking up to Sebastian serving lunch in bed. Having Sebastian again for dessert, dinner, evening snack, and bedtime. The man is insatiable. I think we have made love more in one day than Josh and I have in the past three years. He gives that sexy wicked chuckle and says ‘Ma’ lady, I told you it’s been centuries,’ in that dreamy odd accent of his.

I always thought Josh was great, but he doesn't hold a candle to Sebastian. Making love with Sebastian is, well no other way to say it but magical. Perhaps it’s his experience of being centuries old, or just being a Mage, but whatever it is, it’s amazing.

The memories alone make me want him again. I turn over and decide to spend some time exploring him. Running my fingers over his small but strong arm, tracing the tattoos wrapped around them like a sleeve, they seem to move with my touch. I could have sworn they were closer and much more of them before yesterday.

His nipples harden tempting me to pinch them softly. His eyes flutter open.

“Good morning Ma’lady.” His voice sounds sleepy, but already deepening with need. So sexy.

“Morning, Magick.” His lips meet mine before any more words can be spoken. Shock waves roll through me like lighting. “Let’s shower together. “I just nod, following him like he’s the pied piper.

He washes my hair, my body, and I wash his. I kneel to soap up his legs, fingers twine in my wet hair pulling my head up. I come face to face with Sebastian’s long slender erection. He thrusts forward, brushing it against my lips. I decide to play his game and tease him with my tongue. His throaty moans are like music to my ears. Suddenly he jerks me up by my hair kisses me harshly, pressing me to the shower wall. He lets my hair loose, grasps the soap and caresses me with suds over my back and shoulders as he makes love to me in the shower.

“Ma’lady, you stay here and wash the soap out of your hair. I’ll go make us breakfast. We need to replenish our energy.” I giggle like a school girl watching him walk out naked as a jaybird admiring his tight backside.

Combing out my hair I notice a mark on the back of my neck. Lifting my hair and twisting to look in the mirror I see tiny swirls and curves, starting at my hairline and moving down my neck. What on earth?

“Sebastian, what is this?” I lift my ponytail so he can see the strange marks.

He gives me the cutest look, like a small kid that’s been caught doing something he shouldn’t.

“I’m sorry Ma’lady. I was hoping you wouldn’t find those.” A hint of color creeps up his dark cheeks.

“It’s a wee bit of me. Something for you to remember me by.”

“You’re planning on leaving me soon, Sebastian?” My words come out sharp as a razor.

Pulling me into his arms, he reassures me with a gentle brush of his lips to my forehead.

“Ma’lady, because your Mat didn't show up last night doesn't mean he just gave up on me. He will return for me.” The way he said my Mat, made me beam. He is jealous of a demon, not Josh? Oh crap! Not only do we have a demon to deal with but, there is also Josh. What do I do? What is this with Sebastian?

The harsh reality set in. Sure Sebastian is a powerful mage, but is he a match for a demon? Will he be whisked out of my life as quickly as he appeared?

“I thought you had a plan to be freed.” Pushing him back, breaking contact so I could think more clearly, I slump into the nearest chair.

“I do, Ma’ love, but dealing with a demon always can backfire. You will just have to trust ME, no matter what happens, what you see or what you hear. Be sure to remember this. I am doing what I do for us.” Sliding my chair back he kneels in front of me taking my hands in his.

“Ma’lady, the day I escaped I had only one thing on my mind and that was freedom. The moment I saw you and felt your kindness, I knew I wanted more. After yesterday, things changed yet again. Falling in love was not in my original plan.” Lifting my hands to his lips, the warm wet heat of them on my skin sends shivers through me confusing me even more. He loves me? Do I love him? What about Josh? Why do I still wonder about Mat?

“What is your plan?” My voice cracks slightly as I try to keep tears out of my eyes. Tell me you love me but will be leaving me forever?

“Please trust me Ma’ love. It is better that I don’t tell you. You should prepare yourself that things will get very ugly. Matanbuchus will use all his charms and powers to break your trust in me. He will tell you horrible lies and make them sound very real. Remember this time we have together and the bond we made. Believe me whenever I say I love you.” He leans forward and kisses me warmly and passionately.

“Maybe he has given up? He didn’t come here the other night or last night, it’s dark now and still no demon.”

“Believe me he will return. I was surprised also that he didn’t come last night.” He leans in kissing me, his hands sliding up my thighs. He grins that grin, the one that turns me into pure mush every time. “I am very glad he didn’t interrupt us.”

I blush.

“If he doesn’t show up tonight, my guess is he isn’t wasting his powers. He is waiting for Samhain.”

“So we have two more days and nights?” My hands roam his body, eliciting soft moans, making me feel like the sexiest woman on earth.

********

The next two days go rather quickly. Whatever spell Josh was under worked really well. He only called once and I called him enough to keep peace. After all, I am still confused. Sebastian could be gone forever in a day or so and I don't want to burn any bridges just yet. Josh and I have a lot of history. I wasn’t real thrilled that this decision was under Sebastian's suggestion after I told him I needed to end things with Josh. I guess he had a valid point.

Sebastian worked on his plan and read the spell book he called my great-grandmothers Grimoiure while I worked. He also had the house clean and dinner ready by time I got home. He got a real kick out of carving jack-o-lanterns and preparing treats for the trick-or-treaters. Josh never got involved with decorating for the holidays with me. I pray with all my might that his plan works.

Just in case I have a plan B. I don’t plan to share with Sebastian.

I was disappointed the first couple of nights that Mat didn’t show up. I thought for sure after our mini-date at the bar the other night he would come to see me. I guessed that one wrong. Maybe it’s for the best, Sebastian may be a centuries old mage, but at least he is human.

I took off work on Halloween to spend time with Sebastian. This could be our last day together. I was really shocked when Josh showed up just before dusk.

Sebastian got a kick out of the kids all dressed up. I got a bit nervous as dusk fell, hoping that Mat wouldn't show up while the kids are out. When all the candy is gone we turn off the porch-light. I decide to pop some popcorn and we would watch a movie and wait for the inevitable. I take the popcorn and go back to the living room trying to figure out where to sit. My decision was a bit easier since both men were sitting on the sofa, so I just scooted in between them. Josh seemed to be acting a bit strangely. I guess Halloween must have broken the spell he was under.

“Well, well, well. What a lovely family we have here.” Mat appears in a poof of bright light in front of us. Dramatic much? I scream and throw the popcorn bowl off my lap secretly hoping this is the least of the mess I’ll have to clean up tonight.

Both men stand up simultaneously. Mat looks them both over oddly and lets out a chuckle.

“Sebastian is  the this best you can do? Do you really think I would fall for the simplest trick in the book?” He looks at Josh as he speaks.

“I don’t have a clue to what you refer to.” Sebastian looks at him and chuckles.

Something about his expression seems off. That wicked grin he flashes so freely seems a bit off. Maybe he is a little more afraid than he is letting on.

“Take me and let’s get this over.” Sebastian stands avoiding my stare.

My mouth about hit the floor.

“Sebastian! You can’t just give in. I thought you had a plan? What about us?” Like a rejected school girl I run to him wrapping my arms around him.

“Fallon, the plan wouldn't work without you getting hurt. It’s easier this way trust me. You and Josh can work through this.” His words sounded stilted, rehearsed.

I look over at Josh standing there quietly. His face was blank except for what seems like a slight smirk. I glance at Mat, who had picked up one of the popcorn bowls and sat in a chair watching with a big amused smile.

I turn to him glaring.

“No! You can’t take him!” I wrap myself around Sebastian as if my 5 foot, one-hundred thirty pounds would be an obstacle for such a huge man, well Demon.

“Ok I’ll just take this one.” Mat chuckles and moves over to Josh. Josh looks angrily at Mat.

“You can’t just take someone without a deal like that can you? Josh say no!” Panic feels me. How can I protect them both?

“No Fallon, don’t worry I can’t take a person without a deal. This is Sebastian; he is using glamour to appear to be Josh. I warned you to not trust him.”

I look closely at Sebastian. His eyes seem less fiery, the gold less bright the grin seems off. I move over and inspect Josh closely. Tall, handsome, muscular. Definitely Josh. I can’t help but wonder though why Josh would stand there and let me hug and feel all over Sebastian and not start smashing things. Josh is definitely Mr. modern caveman. I chalk it up to another spell to keep him docile.

“You are the one trying to deceive me, make me not trust Sebastian. He warned me you would try this.”

“Of course he did. All a part of his plan. Seduce you, get you to believe him even assist him to convince me to take the wrong one, buying just enough time for him to disappear.” My heart feels like it’s on the verge of shattering like warm glass sat on a cold surface.

“I have to give it to you Sebastian, the transferring some of my magic into her was a surprise. Quite a pleasant one. What a wonderful gift. I should give you a few years to thank you for that, but I’m not a generous man.”

Crack the shattering of my heart begins slowly and painfully.

I decide to test Sebastian’s love and pull out plan B.

“I want to make a deal. Take me instead. I’m sure I could be more fun than Sebastian. You could leave me here couldn’t you? We could make some sort of arrangement, a time frame, but I get to keep my soul like Sebastian. If he has already started storing some of your magic in me, I must be of some use even though I am not a witch.” I use the painful bit of info that was just dumped on me to my advantage.”

All three men stare at me dumbfounded.

“This isn't a game show Fallon.” Mat looks at me angrily.

I figured he would be pleased. I guess he isn't as interested in me as I thought. I’m glad all I did was dance with him the other night.

“I know, but I don't want to be without Sebastian.” I look at Josh.

“I am so sorry Josh, but I think I am in love with Sebastian.” Even though he just broke my heart, part of me wants to give him the benefit of a doubt. He did warn me to not forget his words no matter what I heard. I’m hoping this could be part of a plan and he isn’t going to just run off.

“Not as much as you think, if you can’t tell the man in your arms isn't the one you claim to love. He has used you to build trust. I still am unsure why he would think that I wouldn't be able to feel my powers through such a simple shield. Kiss him goodbye Love.” He shoves Sebastian toward me. I grab him and press my lips to his, my tongue searching his mouth feeling every warm inch. I run my tongue over his teeth and it hits me like a brick I shove him back, slapping him.

“Why?” He looks surprised.

“Open your mouth and smile I order.” He complies then quickly realizing a problem closes it and frowns, but it’s too late. I didn’t see the gap.  I look at the other and sure enough a slight gap.

“Everything Mat said is true. You would send an innocent man to hell to escape? Was it all lies? Are you planning to run off after tonight? Switch back NOW!”

There was a flash and Josh let out a long groan and dropped to the floor. Mat just stands there looking stunning and amused.

Sebastian pulls me close, his lips by my ears he whispers. “I told you no matter what to trust me. You’re blowing this. Shut the hell up and let me handle this.”

“I asked you was it all lies? Did what we do together these last few days mean nothing at all?”

“Yes, I love you. I meant it all.” He turns to Mat.

“Are you happy? You got what you wanted. The girl offered to make a deal for me so hear her out.”

I about fainted. He loves me but is willing to let me sell my soul for him, practically giving me to the Demon?

He pulls me close holding me so tight I can barely breathe. For once in the time we met I didn't feel that passionate heat. I felt fear.

“I think that deal is off the table. Am I correct Fallon?” I nod, tears already streaming down my face.

“Release her Sebastian.”

“No. You release me from my deal or I will kill her.”

What little was left of my heart crashed into a million tiny pieces.

Mat chuckled; there was a flash and boom. I wake up in Mats arms.

“What happened?”

“It’s over for now”

“Did you kill him?”

“No”

“Why”

“I still have use for him. He isn’t free yet.”

“You let him run off with your secrets?”

“Yes, He will return. You now have the keys to the magic of mine he was holding.”

“How?” Not sure I really want to know

“When you had relations. You are like an open vessel, it must be somewhere in your bloodline. ”

“That’s why he was afraid of me when we first met, and called me a witch?’

Mat nods

“You knew too?”

“I could tell you were different, that there is something in your bloodline. I’m not sure though its witch.”

“Are you saying you think I have demon blood?”

“It is a possibility; something draws me to you that no other human has ever done”.

“I can’t believe you. You and Sebastian are both the same. Now I have lost the only one that truly loved me. I wish none of this ever happened.”

I reach out to hit him; instead he pulls me into a passionate kiss.

“Goodbye Fallon, I am sorry that you are unhappy.”

“Will I ever see you again” My voice merely a dry whisper.

“Do you want to?”

“Yes” I shock myself with the word.

“Why? You know what I am and that I am not capable of love only lust.”

“I know you aren't a man. It’s just... You know... Not natural.”

“I am very much a man.

“But aren't you a beast or something? This is just something for me to see right?”

“No this is me. But yes, I can take on any other forms I choose by magic.”

“This is your true form?”
“It’s the one I am in the most yes”

“See you talk circles. You won’t tell me the truth, just what you think I want to hear.”

“I must go dawn is approaching.

“When will I see you?” Hot tars fill my eyes.

“Soon, I’ll give you time to let this all sink in work things out.”

“Will Sebastian come back for me?”

“I am sure he will.”

“Will you stop him?”

“If you need help I’ll be here.”

“How will you know?”

“I can feel you; remember you have some of me now.”

“You’re not taking it back?” I reach back and feel the tattoos on my neck and the new ones that have appeared on my shoulders.

“Not yet. It’s safe where it is.” He winks and smiles.

“Besides gives me a reason to return whenever I choose.”  He flashes a sexy promising smile and he vanishes.

Valkyrie's Curse - the Conclusion

You've been on the edge of your seat waiting for it, biting your nails you're so anxious.  Well wait no longer because the conclusion  of Valkyrie's curse is here!

Valkyrie's Curse

Part V

by
Ellie Mack

Scott and Niall’s watched silently, waiting until the police had cleared the area.  They made their way back to the four wheeler, this time Scott let Nialls climb on behind him.  Both were a few shades lighter than when they had raced out here.

Back at the camp Scott headed straight for Brad’s tent. Nialls stopped at the mess tent ,offering to grab something for Scott.  ”Sure, grab me a couple of those muffins and a Cliff bar – and a bottle of juice.  I’ll be at Brad’s tent.  OH, you might want to just get a box and put a bunch in it.  If we have food, he’ll want some.”

Scott hurried, he’d need the few extra minutes alone with Brad before Nialls showed up.  He ducked his head quickly under the flap, catching Brad in one of his RP chats with his girlfriend.  ”Fuck man!  Announce yourself next time.”

Scott turned uncomfortably, combing his fingers through his hair.  ”We need to talk and we’ve only got a few minutes.  Nialls will be heading this way very soon.”

Brad zipped his jeans mumbling to himself.

”Look, sorry man but this is important.  They found the body of that student.  She was ripped apart on the sacrificial alter up there – yeah, guess I owe you twenty bucks on that call.  Anyway, it  was a bloody mess.  The police have the whole area roped off.  They cleared out for now.”

”Damn.  Someone murdered her?  Why was Nialls with you?  How did he react?”  He stood and adjusted himself.

”Nialls hurled.  I don’t think he’d have a stomach for anything like this.  He’s pretty shaken, but I don’t think we can trust him with”

Brad made a big cutting motion across his throat.  Just then, Nialls ducked through the flaps with a huge box of food.  He went straight to the folding card table and set the box down and ripped open a bag of Skittles.   Brad searched through the box and found himself one of the giant blueberry muffins and a bottle of Frappaccino.  Scott grabbed his muffin and  a juice.  The three men ate as if they hadn’t eaten in weeks.

When Nialls started into a package of chocolate glazed donuts, he paused long enough to ask ”So, what are we gong to do? ”

Brad drained his bottle of frappaccinno, then dug through the box for one of the juices.  ”We are not going to cause the police any trouble.  We are going to comply with them, and lay low.  Let them find the crazy bastard that killed that girl.”

Joe burst in out of breath.  ”There’s another one.  What the hell is going on around here?”

Scott felt his stomach lurch, his suspicions high.  ”Another one what?”  He had stopped, his bottle raised to his lips but not drinking.

”Another girl’s gone missing. ”  Joe bent over, his hands on his knees to catch his breath.  ”With Helena gone, I thought I better tell you guys.

                                                *                             *                             *                             *

The camp was sheer chaos.  Students threatening to walk back to the airport, students huddling in their tents, others in a near state of shock.  Over the course of five days four girls had gone missing.  The fourth day the second girls body was found strewn around the alter stone north of their dig.  Police were staying in the camp now, patrolling the perimeter, and getting regular updates from Scott and  Brad.

Nialls was a nervous wreck.  He sent reports to Dr.  Montgomery about what had been happening. He reluctantly reported to the guys that the Doctor and the board were seriously thinking of shutting down their dig, and compensating them for their time up to that date.

A couple of the undergraduate men decided to chaperon the girls at all times.  It seemed whoever was perpetrating the crimes was only interested in the women. They checked in with Brad and Scott on the hour.   Meanwhile Brad and Scott worked on their plan to free Helena.

”Where are we going to get a virgin Valkyrie?  Do you think maybe somehow one of the Vikings escaped when she passed through and is sacrificing these girls?”  Scott nervously rubbed his stubble.

”Nah, I don't think so.  I think there’s someone here trying to figure out a way to get in, so they can plunder the halls of Valhalla.  Legend says there is hoards of treasure there.”  Brad flips through one of his notebooks.  ”Look here, at the runes we found on the alter stone.”  He points out to Scott the pictures taken of the stone, then the rubbings and his translation.  ”I think maybe some local, or someone associated with the school here is  killing those girls. It says here that if the sacrifice is given and Odin be pleased, The halls of Valhalla will be open and Ragnarok will begin.”

”So there’s the whole plunder the halls end of the world scenario?”

”Yeah, something like that.  Amazing that thieves are always so short sighted.  We’ve got two days to figure out how to get Helena out of there”

Scott paced around the small tent.  There had to be a way.

                                                *                             *                             *                             *

Helena struggled to read the crude drawings on the wall. They had explored each of the corridors and always came back to the room where the man had been staying.  There was another similar wall at the North end of the network of tunnels, but she could find no way to open it either.

The man tried to tell her each time she went from the north stone to the south stone she had fallen through something about Valhalla, about Ragnarok and Valkyries.  On the last trip, she noticed he tucked his dagger in his waist band as he was muttering about Valkyrie curse.  She had a bad feeling about his intentions.  Held not tried anything sexual with her, so she figured she must have told him the right words before but also decided that minimal talk was best so she didn’t say the wrong things.  With each minute that ticked by, she became more agitated at his behavior.

If she got out of here alive, she made herself a vow to spend more time studying runes, and learning the language fluently.  She muttered prayers as she walked slowly back to the South wall.  There had to be a way, there just had to be.

He stood behind her, playing with his dagger in his hands, turning it over and over.  He eyed her suspiciously ever so often.  Her stomach growled and he handed her a leathery piece of dry  jerky.  It had little taste, but she was grateful.

She pointed to the stone wall and asked him  ” Hvad betyder dette sagt?”

He walks closer, squats down on his knees before her . ” siger ikke sagt. Just My Luck jeg fÃ¥r en Valkyrie, der er smukke, men dim.”

She startled at his comment.  ”OK, say not said – my bad.”  She rolled her eyes.  ”Wait a minute, did you just say I was a dimwit?”

He smiled at her. ”Ja”

Du taler engelsk?”  she asks him if he speaks English.

He waved his hand back and forth.  ”nogle”

Great!  Helena thought about all the things she’d muttered to herself wondering if there was something  she may have said that upset him over the past, what had it been?    Hvor længe siden jeg fik her?”

”Fer diz.”

”Four days?  I’ve been stuck in here for four days?”

She stood and paced .   ”Oh my god oh my god oh my god!”  She had her arms crossed over her chest feeling as if she’d hyperventilate.  She walked up to him within inches.  ”What does it say?”  She screamed it at him.

She tried to make out the words.  ”the blood upon the door, from the maiden Valkyrie, in the moonlight enters.  Leading warriors to Ragnarok. No.  Leading to destination until Ragnarok. Something about the full moon before Samhein – or they are lost. A second Valkyrie must come to return to men.”  she stared blankly at the man.

He shook his head. ”dim”

She punched him square in the chest. ” I am NOT dim.  You arrogant jerk!”  she walked a few steps down the corridor.  ”Right.  So we’re trapped here until a Valkyrie comes to rescue us.  Great!  My life depends on a legend.  Wonderful.”

She kicked a rock down the tunnel, hearing it skip several times in the dark tunnel.  A terrible thought occurred to her.  She walked back and grabbed his arm, practically grabbing him behind her.  She rushed  to the North wall an pointed.  ”Read it!”

ikke dæmpes, kan bare ikke læse”

”Oh, I can read buster, just not ancient Danish runes.”

His eyebrow shot up. ” Det er ikke gammel, det er vores sprog.”

”What do you mean, OUR language?”  She stood with a scowl on her face, arms crossed.  ”Read it.”

”Jeg kan acceptere dim nÃ¥r sÃ¥ beautful.”  He leaned over and kissed her lightly.

”You think I’m beautiful  but dim.  Great.  Well thanks for the beautiful part.”

He flashed her a brilliant smile.   If he shaved he would be a good looking man.  And if he bathed.

Dette er dør til Nefflheim. Hvis du finder det Ã¥bent, er Valkyrie ikke komme efter dig. Velkommen til Nefflheim.”

”Right so basically this is the door to hell.  No Valkyrie for you, welcome to hell.  Let’s pray this door isn’t the one that opens.”

                                                *                             *                             *                             *

Scott was frantic.  Another body had been discovered.  The police had been on patrol and somehow the killer managed to evade them and leave another girls body on the same stone.  This one was different though, she’d been bound and gagged, apparently raped then had her throat slit.  The others had their stomachs slashed and their insides ripped out, strewn around them.  Time was growing short for his Helena.  He’d wanted her for so long and now that she was his, she was gone.

He had begun to ask each of the remaining girls in camp a few questions before hitting the big one, were they virgins.  Sadly, most of them were not.  Susan Thornton was, but she was definitely of Indian descent.

He paced through his tent mumbling.  He thought nothing of the jeep that rolled up outside thinking it was probably another of the police, or Dr. Montgomery.  Either way he didn’t care.

”Hello, are you Scott?”

He turned to find an attractive young girl in braids standing with the tent flaps open.  ”Joe over at the mess tent told me to come see Scott about my sister.”

”Um,  which one is your sister?” He nervously combed his fingers through is hair.  Explaining a brutal murder to someone wasn’t in his plans for the day.

”Helena?”

Scott stood perfectly still.  ”Brittany?”

”Um, yes, how did you know my name?”

Scott ran to her and hugged her tight.  ”I know exactly where Helena is.”  He took her bags and tossed them on his cot.  ”Let’s go.”

He stopped at Brad’s tent and filled him in. They climbed into the jeep, and headed for the dig.  Brittany chattered the entire time about how Helena had invited her to visit, to see if she wanted to follow her big sisters foot steps.  She told about the flight over, and the long wait in town for a taxi when Helena was suppose to pick her up.

Scott turned the jeep off.  ”If I’d known I’d have come to get you. Helena has been, well she’s been busy at the site. ”

It was fifteen minutes to midnight of Samhein.  There was no time to waste.  He practically drug her down the tunnel, Brad fast on their heels.  When they reached the stone wall, Scott looked up to see that the moonlight was filtering in.  The brightness of the full moon gave them plenty of light albeit a creepy blue light.  ”Helena is just on the other side of this door.  Ready?”

”Sure.”

She barely got the words out of her mouth when Brad grabbed her hand and sliced across her palm with his pocket knife.  As Brittany inhaled, her eyes growing large with the shock, Scott grabbed the same hand and slapped it against the stone.  The stone vanished revealing Helena and her Viking friend. They both rushed out, Helena straight into Scott's arms and the Viking falling on Brittany.

Priset være Odin. Guderne foretrækker mig!”  The viking kissed Brittany hard on the lips, lifting her off the ground and twirling her around.  (Praise to Odin, the gods favor me!)

”Scott grabbed Helena, kissing her firmly.  ”Helena.”  He kissed her again. ”I thought I’d lost you.”  He hugged her tightly, then kissed her deeply, passionately.

After an awkward length of time, Brad cleared his throat interrupting the two couples.

Brittany blushed as the Viking set her on her feet.  ”Um, hi.”  She looked down  embarrassed that she had been kissing the stranger.

”Brittany meet Yani,  Yani Brittany.” She then stepped closer to her Viking friend.  She leaned in close to his face with a stern expression.  ”She is my sister, not a Valkyrie.”

Yani chuckled, his arm around Brittany and tossed his head in Helena’s direction.  ”Dim”

                                                *                             *                             *                             *

The police captured the killer as he tried to sacrifice the fourth girl.  It turned out to be Dr. Sheffield, the Danish professor that originally coordinated the dig.  He had spent a life time researching the site, gathering all information about the dig and the stones  related to the site.

Yani had been trapped in the in between for nearly 400 years, but hadn’t aged in that magical ”nether” place.  When Scott and Brad had helped him clean up, shower and shave he was an attractive man that was determined to be with Brittany.  In his things was a purse filled with ancient coins.  When he sold them to the museum of Denmark, it set him up with a small fortune.  He then hired  Brad and Scott to tutor him in modern English, and modern ways.

The following year Scott and Helena were married in a dual ceremony with Brittany and Yani.  The site was a huge success, revealing intricate tunnels  underground thanks to Brittany having opened the door.  As a wedding gift to his sister in law, Yani presented Helena with a map.  It was written in runic language.

”Read it please.”  Helena told him.

He read to her in Danish then offered, ”It is map to Atlantis.”

Her eyes grew large, her archaeological interest now piqued.  She grabbed it from his hands.

He chuckled, twirling Brittany around then tossed his head in Helena’s direction again.  ”Dim”

Part Four - The Finale!

Part Four (The Finale)

“Excuse me, I was looking for records on the Dupree Estate?” I asked the nice old lady behind the counter. She looked up at me and smiled.
“Of course sweetie. Right this way.” She led me back to the records and pulled down a box and handed it to me.
“Everything we have on the Dupree Estate. There are tables over there.” She pointed to a row table of tables and toddled off back to her desk.
“OK…thanks.” I carried the box to the nearest table and set it down. I took off the lid and looked inside to find a bunch of newspaper clippings, and strips of film and such.
“OK, let’s get to work.” I sat down at the table and pulled out a newspaper clipping it read: “Dupree Home finished in 1805. The Dupree family moves in, and is quickly known as the richest family in the state.”
“Hm…” I put it down and picked up another, this one was a birth announcement. “Dupree family make room for new baby girl.”  “Elizabeth? No, can’t be she’s only five or six, Aunt said she died in late 1880’s.”
“OK, need some later newspapers.” I dug through the box until I found one dated November 20th, 1888. “Perfect.” I sat back and read the newspaper clipping, it was a special edition. “Dupree family bring home a beautiful baby girl, named Elizabeth. The Dupree family brought home their little bundle of joy last night and are very proud of her.”
“Elizabeth…I knew she was real!” I dug through the box for a older photo of Elizabeth. I pulled out a clipping that was also a special edition, except this one was not as happy.
“There she is…Elizabeth…” I sat down slowly and stared at the photo of a smiling little girl. She looked exactly like the little girl I’d seen in my room this morning. I shivered all over and tried to stayed calm. I took a deep breath and read the clipping. “Tragedy strikes the Burgh area! The entire Dupree family were found dead in their home this morning. June 13th, 1894. Mr. and Mrs. Dupree and little Elizabeth Dupree, were all found in their beds. No sign of foul play was found. The doctor suspects smoke inhalation as a on inspection the chimney was found closed, the smoke had no place to escape except into the house and killed the family as they slept.”
“How horrible…” I looked around for the lady and before I quickly shoved the newspaper clipping into my bag. I put everything back into the box and replaced it where it was. I smiled at the lady before leaving.

“Auntie! Auntie!” I yelled out to her as I ran into the house. I ran to the living room where I knew I’d find her with her feet up.
“Look what I found at the records office.” I pulled out the clipping and handed it to her.
“I thought you were out buying paint for the baby’s room?” She asked and took the clipping. “Oh how horrible for them. I’ll make sure your Uncle looks at that chimney before we make any fires.”
“No, you don’t get it. That little girl Elizabeth, I saw her in my room this morning.” I told her, she looked at me funny and sighed.
“Isabella, I know this is a huge change and you’re lonely but please ghosts?” She shook her head and gave me the clipping. I sighed and walked to my room.
“I knew she wouldn’t believe me…” I got to my door when I head giggling and singing. “Elizabeth!” I opened my door and ran inside.
“Elizabeth…” There was sitting on my bed playing with her doll and singing. I had a brief thought to call my Aunt, but she was so big it’d take her three hours to get up here.
“Elizabeth, I know how you died. You died from smoke in the fireplace…” I held out the clipping, she stopped singing and looked at me.
“It was the bad thing.” She shivered and combed her dolls hair.
“No, you died from smoke inhalation, the chimney was closed.” I was still holding out the paper.
“The bad thing closed the chimney on us. My daddy started the fire because it was very cold that night. He made sure the chimney was open before we went to bed. The bad thing closed it on us, he killed us. He’ll kill you too, and your family.” She looked at me dead serious, I shivered and dropped my hand.
“How do you know?” I asked.
“When we woke up dead, the bad thing was there. He told us what he had done to us and why.” She sniffed.
“Why?” I asked, she looked at me.
“Because this was his land and we stole it from him when we built our home. He will kill anyone who lives here.” She sniffed again and hugged her doll.
“But, the house was built in 1805, why’d it take him so long?” I asked, confused.
“It didn’t. He killed my grand parents before I was born.” She sighed.
“Let me guess, smoke inhalation?” I asked, she nodded.
“When they died my mommy got the house so she moved in with my daddy.” She set her doll down and looked at me.
“How do I stop the bad thing?” I couldn’t believe I was asking that, let alone talking to a ghost.
“On the anniversary of our deaths the light thingy will reappear if you can get me into it, I can get the bad thing expelled. He needs me here to stay, if I’m gone he will have nothing to feed on and the underworld will take him.” She nodded and I wondered how she was so smart.
“OK, that’s June 13th, that’s tomorrow.” I said, she nodded.
“How do I get you into the light?” I asked, again not believing I was.
“You have to distract him long enough for me to slip past and get in. I don’t know how you will, you can’t even see him.” She sighed.
“I’ll think of a way. Don’t you worry.” I felt very brave for someone going to take on a bad dark thing so a ghost can escape to the afterlife.
The day of her death had finally come and it was time to fight the bad thing as Elizabeth called it. I still had no idea how I was going to do this.
I couldn't even see the thing let alone fight it, I'd been up all night trying to think of ways to distract it. But, short of killing myself to face it, I couldn't think of a thing. It was about 10pm that night, I was lying in bed trying to think of a way to fight him.
"It's almost time, I can hear the bag thing coming for me." Elizabeth was curled up on the other side of me as if I could protect her from the bad thing.
"I know, I know, I'm thinking." I sighed and closed my eyes and covered them. I had to think of way, I just had to. The next thing I knew, I was floating in the air above my bed. Elizabeth was playing with her doll trying to be calm, but her hands were shaking. I looked down at my body, to find I looked like I was sleeping.
"Am...I sleeping? What is this?" I looked at myself, I was all gray and see through. "Elizabeth..." I called out to her, she blinked and looked at my body then up at the ceiling, she gasped.
"Issy...are you…dead?" She asked scared, I frowned.
"I…don't think so." I landed on the floor and became almost solid like Elizabeth.
"What are you?" She got up and walked over to me, she reached out to touch me, but I was solid.
"I don't know...I'm not dead. My body is breathing..." I got a sudden chill and I spun around to find a large dark shadow coming out of the corner.
"Is that..." I started.
"The bad thing? Yes!" She whimpered and hid behind me.
"Wow...you weren't kidding." I watched as it made it's way slowly towards us, the overhead lights blinked and went out as it drew close. It worked very hard to avoid all light period.
"Elizabeth, go! I'll distract him." I pushed her away from us.
"But..." She started, I waved her off.
"OK, good luck!" She whimpered, grabbed her doll and ran. The bad thing looked at her, like it as going to follow.
"Hey! You ugly excuse for a ghost...over here!" I yelled at it, it hissed and turned back to me.
"You...the astral plane walker...I met your mother, she came to see me. I enjoyed killing her, just as much as I will killing you." It hissed, I blinked and stepped back. What was a astral plane walker, and my mother died in a car accident.
"Liar! My mother wasn't asleep when she died!" I yelled back, it hissed some more.
"You don't have to be asleep for me to kill you. She was trying to stop me, so I took care of her. I made sure the oncoming driver fell asleep at the wheel and hit them head on." It hissed then laughed some laugh that made me cover my ears and shiver.
"Liar! You're lying!" I yelled at it, it seemed to grow bigger and hissed.
"Delicious..." It tried to move around me, but I stepped in it's way.
"If that's true, then I will finish her work and stop you once and for all!" I puffed out my chest and crossed my arms.
"You? Child?" It laughed that horrid laugh again, this time I didn't cover my ears.
"You don't even know where you are, how you got here, or even what I am." It hissed.
"You are a bad thing that killed an entire family and is keeping a young girl from reaching the ever after where her family is waiting. That's all I need to know." I snorted and stood my ground, I felt kind of tingly in my hands.
"If you say so, I've killed more the this family. Every family that had ever lived here or anywhere near here. This entire town is mine, I kill who I wish and no one ever knows it's me, I will never be defeated." It roared, I think I like the laugh better.
"Someone’s got an ego. How long have you been here?" I asked.
"I have been here since before this town was created. When this was all woods and lakes and nature. It was mine, now these humans have stolen it and made it their town! So, I get back by killing whole families for fun!" It laughed this time, I winced. I take it back, I don't like either.
"You creature. This land does not belong to you, you aren't even whole or slid how can it belong to you!" I asked, it hissed and started to take shape. Once it was done it became a man in his forties, in a Victorian like suit, with a cane and a hat.
"How about now?" He smiled.
"That's not real, it's just your pretending to be solid." I sneered, he glared at me and put his hat on and smiled.
"You can't keep me here forever Isabella. I can get past you easily, but I have time until the light appears, also I wanted to talk to you, like I said I knew your mother to well." He smiled.
"My mother lived nowhere near here..." I said, but I wasn't very sure.
"Not while you were alive. But, as a girl she did, she moved away when she was 25." He swung his cane and walked around.
"Then why kill her now?" I asked.
"Because, I heard she was coming back to put an end to me once and for all. That's where she was going the day she died. Here!" He smiled and showed pointy teeth.
"No...she was on her way to pick me up." I stuttered. He just grinned.
"She lied. If I'd known you'd be here now. I would of waited until she got you then killed her." He showed his pointy teeth again.
"Liar." I was getting not angry, but wanting to stop him. I was getting strong I could feel my hands pulsating with some kind of power, I didn't know what it was. But, I knew I had to use it on him, but not yet.
"If you say so. But, I really must be going it's 11:28pm you see. I have an appointment." He smiled and vanished.
"Elizabeth..." I ran down the stairs and through the attic door, I didn't even pause to wonder how. Elizabeth’s bedroom was the baby's nursery. I ran in to find the bad thing holding onto Elizabeth as the white light appeared in the wall. It was beautiful, but something else appeared. It was a red swirling vortex in the floor.
"That's for you isn't it?" I looked at him, he glared, but I could see a glimmer of fear in his illusion of eyes.
"Let her go!" I demanded. I could feelk the power growing inside of me. "Now."
"No thank you, I'll keep her." He smiled, I looked at Elizabeth who smiled and hit him in the face with her doll and broke free of his hold.
"Run!" I yelled to her, I balled up my hand and concentrated the power I could feel into it.
"I can't go until he's gone!" Elizabeth yelled banging on the barrier in front of the light.
"No problem..." I threw the ball of energy at him, it hit in square in the head, he stumbled backwards towards the swirling vortex.
"No, I will not be beaten by a child." He yelled and became mist again, he reached for Elizabeth and me. I threw as many balls at his tendrils as I could, they burned him like they were fire.
"It hurts..." I thought about the lights he put out when he appeared. "Yes..."
"You won't stop me..." It hissed.
"Want to bet?" I ran to the light switch and flipped it on, I turned on the night light and the crib light and every light I could find.
"No!" He screeched and withered away from the lights.
"It's time for you to see the light!" I concentrated as hard as I could and filled my chest with as much power as I could. When I was done I released it, a light as bright as the sun shone out from my chest and covered every inch of him.
No!" He screamed and screeched. I aimed one last ball at his center and made it as big as I could muster. It hit him square on and he fell backwards into the swirling vortex.
"No...no...no! I won't go...no!" He screamed until the vortex closed and there was silence. I just stood there and stared at the spot.
"Holy...cow..." I panted and looked at Elizabeth, she was shocked too.
"Issy, you did it!" She squealed and tackle hugged me.
"Yes, I did. You can go home now." I smiled down at her, but she hugged her doll and shivered.
"I'm scared...what if mommy forgot about me?" She looked up at me scared.
"She's your mommy she will never forget you. It's OK, go." I walked her over to the light.
"OK, bye Issy thank you." She smiled.
"Good bye Elizabeth, I will never forget you or this." I laughed, she smiled and handed me her doll and walked into the light. I heard her scream "Mommy!" just before it closed and the room became dark. All the lights I'd turned on her blown out.
"Now...how do I get back into my body?" I sighed and went back to the attic.

"Isabella, wake up!" A voice yelled, I jumped and sat up in bed.
"What?" I looked around, my Aunt was beside the bed, she looked annoyed.
"What?" I asked guiltily.
"It is three pm, get up." She shook her head and walked out.
"I guess I was tired." I grinned and picked up the doll. "Good bye Elizabeth, I hope you are finally at peace."

Grave whispers have led me to where I never wanted to go. Now what I see - I will never forget

I still get remnants of that headache just thinking about it. I’m glad we were able to bring Charity peace, but my heart aches for what she suffered. ~Alexa Martin

Grave Whispers

Part Four

The early evening brought hues of reds as the daylight turned into night. Houses stood out along the street. Each house decorated with some variant of Halloween decorations. Kids were seen in groups all dressed up.

Princesses walked next to ninjas, vampires, and witches. The beam of flashlights danced along the darkening sidewalks. Parents’ of the younger ones trailed behind the excited children.

A knock sounded at the door. Alexa lifted a large bowl filled with chocolate onto her hip. She opened the door expecting calls of trick or treat. The surprise registered on her face when Officer Morgan’s smiling face met her own.

“If I say trick or treat do I get a piece?” Morgan asked. His words filled with a teasing lilt.

“Nope, you aren’t wearing a costume.” Alexa giggled, stepping back to allow him entrance.

“Sure I did. I came dressed as a handsome date.” He pressed down his silk tie. Alexa laughed harder as she picked up her clutch-purse and black wrap.

“Well then, help yourself.” Alexa’s eyes twinkled. Morgan removed a Snickers from the bowl, unwrapping it instantly. He’d loved the candy bar since he was a kid. The way the caramel and chocolate worked together.

“Thank you.” Morgan spoke around the mouthful of candy. Alexa shook her head, grabbing the set of keys off the coffee table.

“Didn’t your mama ever teach you not to eat candy before dinner, much less not to talk with your mouth full?” She began turning off all the lights, except a small lamp by the door.

“Yes, Ma’am, but even she’d tell you I’m as hard headed as they come.” Morgan chuckled lightly.

“I would never have guessed, Officer Morgan.” Alexa grinned, following him out of the door. She turned back to lock the front door making sure her aunt’s house was secure.

“Please, it’s just Jason. I left Officer Morgan at home with my badge.” His grin brought out his dimples. Alexa smiled in return, unable to help herself. She realized then this was the first time she had actually heard his first name.

“Where are we going for this celebration dinner?” Alexa tucked the keys into her purse. Jason placed his hand on her lower back, escorting her toward the black SUV in the driveway.

“I’m taking you to one of the best restaurants in town.” Jason smiled helping her into the passenger side, before climbing behind the wheel. Alexa felt her skin tingle where his hand had been. The fiber of her dress didn’t even provide much barricade from the heat that was Officer Jason Morgan.

“So – from the excitement in your voice earlier, I’m going with you all got all the evidence you needed.” Alexa turned slightly in her seat to watch his face. The way the business and streetlights played across his angular features kept her mesmerized. Heat rolled through her body as she finally took the time to really look at the man she’d been working with for the week. Even if she was determined to keep away from men, she could appreciate that this man was a fine specimen to look at.

“You’re staring at me.” Jason lightly teased. He could almost feel the heat that flushed up to her cheeks. The rustling of fabric let him know she’d moved, her eyes no longer on his face. A part of him ached at the sudden change.

“Did you all get the evidence?” Alexa repeated more guarded now. She clung to her clutch trying to get a grip on her emotions.

“Yes, thanks to you. After they dug up the bodies, there was enough evidence under her nails to point at the thugs. The thugs turned over, giving us Braxton. The gun he was carrying at the time matched the ballistics on the bullet. It all came together far neater and tidier than other cases I’ve had. I really don’t think they planned on getting caught, or they would have covered their tracks better.” Jason stated, turning off the main road that ran the length of the town.

“I don’t think so either. What happened to the baby?” Alexa darted a glance back over at Jason.

“He now lives with Charity’s parents. They are looking at adopting him.” Jason smiled softly. Alexa nodded her approval. She watched as Jason parked the car, coming over to her side to help her out. A quick movement ensured the material of her dress was where it needed to be. She smiled at Jason. He held doors open for her, escorting her with a gentle hand on her lower back. It shocked Alexa that men still did that, having been years since any other man had even asked her out.

The restaurant lit by romantic candles, strings of soft white light lay in plants around the eating area. They followed the host back to a table in the corner. Jason held her chair for her, before taking his own.

“Wow, this place is gorgeous.” Alexa looked around. Her eyes twinkled more with the environment. They talked over anything and everything while enjoying the delicious food and white wine.

“Let’s have a toast.” Jason raised his wine glass. Alexa lifted hers to meet his.

“To ultimately finding a love worth dying for.” She smiled, lightly tapping their glasses together. In that moment Jason saw hope, dreams, but more importantly passion residing in her emerald green eyes.
